Individual psychotherapy is used successfully with children, adolescents and adults. The psychotherapeutic process offers emotional support and helps a person learn to deal more effectively with issues in life that are impacting interpersonal, social, academic or occupational functioning.

Goals for therapy may range from very specific (improved relationships with family or friends, changes in behavior), to broad and general (improved self-esteem or reduced anxiety). An important element in individual psychotherapy is the trusting relationship that develops between the therapist and the client. A healing environment is created when the client feels safe, comfortable and understood by the therapist.
